Here in the Midwest, it is thunderstorm season and that means the occasional power outage. A couple of years ago I was taking an online course and a thunderstorm struck and our power went out. I had no back-up power and I lost a lot of work. Before the power came back on, I went to the local computer store and purchased an APC power supply/surge protector.
Since I have had the APC, my system and data have been protected at least 6 times from total power outages and countless times the APC has protected my computer from brown outs and spikes.
I use a back up power supply and surge protector from APC. APC is arguable the best manufacturer of PC power supplies. For home or small office, I recommend the APC Back-UPS ES 350VA/200W unit.
Every computer should have a back up power supply and surge protection. The $40-$50 spent on a power supply is more than worth any data you have and it protects your hardware that is very susceptible to power variations. Don’t get caught in the next thunderstorm without one. You have been warned!
